According to the results obtained by a report from PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment). Costa Rica is one of the worst countries on child Bullying.
This document says that 10.9% of the Costa Rican students have been bullied frequently.
Verbal abuse, physical abuse and even cyber abuse has been reported and has been increasing over the past few years.
Victims of bullying are usually introverted kids. The ones sensed as week and quiet because the bully knows they won’t do anything to defend themselves.
Kids who are bullied can develop feelings of loneliness, depression, suicidal thoughts, lack of self-esteem and loss of interest in daily activities.
All these effects are terrible and children can carry them all the way through adulthood
We at The Hero Academy in Tamarindo are committed to stop bullying.
We teach children ways to prevent and stop bullying in their houses and schools. And to NEVER be a bully.
Is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Tamarindo The Key To Stop Bullying?
Here are 5 ways how our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu In Tamarindo program is helping to stop bullying in our community
BJJ Builds Up Confidence
The Bullies are usually people/ children with very low self-esteem, they don’t have the enough personal confidence to act cool and be nice and they have to constantly prove themselves otherwise by inflicting pain to others.
Our Jiu Jitsu lessons in Tamarindo fill children with confidence by building up their character. By mastering techniques kids start to feel they are good at it and their confidence levels rises up. The support from coaches, parents and team show them they aren’t alone and they will walk feeling more confident about themselves in and outside the mats.
2) Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Teaches Children About Respect
BJJ requires to make eye contact with you opponent, shaking hands, bowing, and in other words RESPECTING your opponent.
Knowing they deserve respect above all.
In Our Academy In Tamarindo where we have children from ALL different social background, they learn about equality and respect.
3) It gives children a TEAM
Bullies prey on lonely kids. BJJ works as a tool to make friends, and having a whole team that supports you inside and outside the mats give this kids the feeling of never being lonely.
They know that they can count on their team mates and their coaches at the Hero Academy and that they will never be rejected by them. We at our BJJ classes in Tamarindo teach the kids to communicate with their coaches and parents, to never feel afraid of feeling alone
Life is full of stress for kids as well!!
They have to deal with stress at their households, stress at school, social stress, puberty stress!!
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches them to handle stressful situations on the mat, children can use their daily stress as a fuel to be better at BJJ and leave it there on the mats, then going home feeling lighter and better with themselves and with the world around them, they will treat everyone around them better and no one will want to mistreat them.
5) Self Defense and Reputation
BJJ provides a realistic defense against bullies, it teaches to control and submit your opponent without necessary having to hurt him. And it gives the child a great reputation!
No one who is known for training BJJ will fit the bullied category, and all the kids who train at our Hero Academy build reputations in their schools about being confident, strong and having a huge heart and that is the best defense tool a child can have
